Brief
history of Poets corner estate
Poets Corner is part of the Elmington estate. Poet’s Corner and adjoining estates were
built shortly after the Second World War to provide accommodation
for those who were displaced from their homes by the war and Most of
the OAPs would have been children at the time. The buildings on
Poet's Corner should be about 45-55 years old roughly. The plan at
the time was that, these buildings, Lomond Grove, Broome Way and
Flecker House, will be pulled down after ten years because they were
temporary shelters. Springs and wells were known to
have existed on the southern slope of Denmark Hill especially around
Grove Park. Also, there was a little spring or well near the Landor
House grounds.
Poets Corner Tenant and
Residents Association is made up of 12 blocks:
Broome Way,
Flecker House,
Keats House,
Kipling House,
Lamb House,
Landor House
Lomond Grove,
Marvel House,
Masterman House,
Milton House and
Pope House.
All together there are 519 flats on Poet's Corner estate.

On Friday 4th
June 2010 Harriet Harman visited the Poets Corner Estate in
Camberwell with local cllrs Kevin Ahern and Emmanuel Oyewole. The
chair of the local TRA, Theresa Adetona, showed her round and raised
several pressing issues.
