COMMUNITY PROJECTS & EVENTS
Many
activities were held by the estate, one of which was the Healthy
Living Day. Many groups were represented - the Sexual health
team, the sickle cell awareness team, diabetes team, the Saladmaster
team - how to cook with little or no oil. The Healthy living team
from Southwark who held the fruit tasting feat, The Lupus disease
awareness team amongst others.

Camberwell’s Poets Corner tenants
and residents association saw 300 local people turn up for their
healthy living fun day and man,
woman and child have a great time.
A big attraction for the
under-fives was a fruit tasting session – with fruit from all over
the world. One of the organisers Theresa Adetona says her kids now
love fruit, ‘which is a big pinch on my pay packet’.
For parents of young ones who
don’t fancy their five a day, help was at hand in the form of a
cookery demonstration of a low fat chocolate cake incorporating
hidden vegetables.
The barbeque offered lean chicken
and burgers with extra spices and less salt. Not a greasy sausage in
sight. For older people there were reflexology and massage sessions.
‘We had to pay the therapist extra to stay on as so many people
wanted a go,’ says Theresa.
A sex education charity was there
to answer questions and provide advice on sexual health and
relationships
to young adults and teenagers.
There
was health information on Lupus and Sickle
Cell. The TRA certainly got the most out of its £750 grant. It also
had face painting, street dancing and
belly dancing on the day.
